Defender 90 - Auxiliary Power
Any tips on how to keep an auxiliary power socket live with the ignition key out? The beer is warming up as the cool box shuts down. Big Cry

I've run a twin core cable from the battery box down to the left hand rear panel from under the vehicle (having not seen TJ101's thread) this is for an Engel socket and a Hella plug in the speaker panel. 110 2.4TDCi

More or less ditto here,,

But did you look on the right hand side, Question behind the speaker panel,, UK cars have a permanent feed, from the Aux fuse box, under the right hand seat ??? California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Didn't look behind the right hand panel but will sometime in the next week when I fit the wheel carrier. I'd rather have the sockets to the left side of the door as they are more accessible. Also I wanted to run heavier cable direct from the second battery to the rear. 110 2.4TDCi

I had a look on Sunday - realised i looked on the left not right side, i did think at the time as the right side is the main harness side.

One thing i did notice is removal of the speaker, how did you guys get it out - is there a trick? Mike

If you mean the speaker panel,, Their are 2/3 panel clips in the lower edge, pull back carpet, and remove the clips, then carefully lever out from the bottom, then comes out California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Not in the Australian ones. Obviously it costs more to import carpet and MP3 compatible CD/Radio units Evil or Very Mad

The top section of the speaker panel is double sided taped to the bottom of the window surround and comes off easy enough. 110 2.4TDCi

Fitted a socket today.

Bit of a pain job as the trim really didnt want to come out despite the 3 clips being removed and the carpet back.

Anyway purple and black cable and connector found - 12v feed - small harness made using 25amp cable, hole drilled socket connected to purple and all refitted - works a treat thanks for that.

A few issues on my behalf fitting, but still done and all good. So am i correct 20amps fused under the seat for that feed?

Also does the ecu monitor battery levels and shut down applications if voltage drops? Mike

Yep, a separate fuse box, under the RH (Drivers) seat, with the main box, holding 2 fuses,, their is also meant to be another one, halfway back down the vehicle,, but have yet to find it !!!

I had no power at this feed to start with,, Under the bonnet, near the servo, is a butt connector, with this Purple/Black wire,, mine was dickey from new !!

Very much doubt if the ecu will shut down power to the aux feed, if low volts,, With the Engle fridge, i run one of those low voltage leads ,, however these kill the power too soon,, i have had it shut down, then bypassed it overnight, and the 110 still started fine in the morning !!! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Mine was all ready to go nothing required which was nice - well put it this way 12v read and the search light worked.

Be good if the ecu did that - the vw's we used to have did, meant you could always start the car! - I dont doubt there may be one mid way, more on the 110 - but i would doubt it on the 90. Whats it actually for anyway? Mike
