Any idea?
I have a new noise which appears to be coming from the
turbo like it is drawing in air, most noticeable at 2000rpm no
lose of power just the noise like a whine.
svx has 20k km and it has just started.
Who knows what ?

Cheers

Hi CR

I had 2 issues with the Turbo that can be the problem that you have.

1.- Turbo hose with perforations.
2.- Inlet turbo manifold but sounds quite loudy

Cheers! Eduardo

This sounds very like my current turbo "issue".

Started off as a noise very similar to a slipping drive belt - a shrieking sound - when the turbo is boosting; other threads on this forum suggested that it could be a leak from the exhaust manifold to turbo joint, with the gasket vibrating (search for "turbo flange" to find the two threads).

All of a suddent the shrieking stopped but was replaced with a really loud hissing sound instead, which again happens only when accelerating or under conditions when the boost pressure is up.

This afternoon I started to fit a replacement gasket between the turbo and manifold, but once the heatshield was off I could find no trace at all of a leak from that joint. I did notice however that the front branch of the exhaust manifold was loose on the head; the two setscrews could be tightened one full turn by hand before needing a spanner. Unfortunately I didn't have a spare exhaust manifold gasket, but tightening the manifold has I think reduced the hiss somewhat. Tomorrow I will try to get a new gasket.

Have a look at the other two threads - there is a lot of detail (and excellent photos) - but it does sound like a leak somewhere between the head and the turbo.
