Water pump number 3 :-(
Hey guys.

First, excuse me for my bad English, but i'm from Belgium (rainy and cold Sad ) .

So, this said, here goes. Three months ago, i noticed red coolant weeping from my water pump (inspection whole).

So ... Defender into the local garage and they fitted a new water pump.
One week later ... weeping again. Back to the local LR garage, new water pump in warranty.

Now ... three months later, the water pump starts weeping again! Crying or Very sad

Grrr ... what could be wrong? Just a bad water pump again? Don't know which brand the local garagist uses.

Thinking doing the job myself with an original water pump. But before i takle the job, all suggestions are welcome. I use this as guide for the job:

That's a good guide. The job is quite easy as long as you get a few of the air intake pipes out of the way. Just get an OEM pump (I used Quinton Hazell but can't guarantee that's OEM).

You don't need to remove the acoustic cover, and I removed the centrifuge instead of undoing the turbo oil feed pipe.

If you choose to remove teh centrifuge then get 2 gaskets and a filter for the centrifuge at the same time. And while you're in there you probably want to do an oil and filter change too.

Apart from the sump plug, I did it all with a 1/4" drive socket set - I think the biggest a/f was 10mm! The land rover manual says to remove the turbo but you don't need to do that. I found splitting the centrifuge drain pipe at the middle join helped remove it.

I also drained the oil at the same time - not sure but if you don't you may get oil out of the centrifuge drain.

IIRC, Quinton Hazell used to be the OE part, however, QH went pop and (I maybe talking rubbish) have been resurrected. So, does that make them still OE or not? Unless you can get hold of any new old stock from the original QH days.

If that makes sense, let me know, cos I are now confused. It wasn't me!
