Ok real world answer: Over the years - nay decades - I've jacked on all the points mentioned [diff, tube, arms] with no adverse effect on the vehicles and unsurprisingly the world has continued to turn
![]() PS: Don't forget to loosen the wheelnuts a bit before you get the wheel in the air ![]() Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Well, that was a lot of worrying for no need!
Handbrake, first gear, low range, diff lock, chock two wheels and jack using diff. Very straight forward, et voila, winter wheels now on. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

I also tend to put the wheel I've just taken off under the truck. In case it falls it lands on the wheel and I can get the jack underneath.
Not sure if this is good practice or not, but always done it. Car/truck never fell* but feels a bit safer to me. Thoughts..? I also put an axle stand under the axle. Cheers Simon * only time I had a problem was years ago (37 to be precise) when I managed to lower a Mini onto my hand that for some stupid reason was resting on the top of my trolley jack...! I passed out and fell on the gas heater I was using in the garage. It was only my quick acting young brother who managed to get me off the fire and prevent a impromptu BBQ... ![]() |

Wheel under car is good practice imo.
