I had some great times (89-94) in Germany, BAOR as it was then rather than the new BFG. I'm sure Germany will miss them as a whole. It's a big chunk of money to just take out of the economy. But I'm sure they'll cope over there.
IIRC don't the kids gets presents on 6 Dec? Nicholas Tag??? Been a while since I lived there 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

Loved my time in Hameln and Elmpt - and from those that decided to stay, the impact of BF leaving is literally leaving a hole in the communities.
Know some of the Engineers are staying from 23 Amphibious but as for the rest - Tidworth is now bursting! |

In fact especially the pubs will suffer severely, british forces members seem to be very capable when it comes to the amount of liquids one can pour into their stomachs ![]() There are about 8000 people here in our area including the family members, so they'll leave some retailers with a big hole in their pockets |

As you know in the early 90's the DM was still in use rather than than funny money you now use. Exchange rate was 3DM to the £. A beer in camp cost 1DM. And there were 5 or 6 bars on camp we drank in before even thinking of going down town. A walk or taxi to town would be unheard of before 2300hrs!!
We also had LOA. Local overseas allowance. Being a young single soldier mine was just over £300 a month. Supposedly to bring our wages into line with the locals because you earnt more and life in general was more expensive. I think mine funded my Fiesta XR2, it was only a couple of years old but it was fast enough for me back then. 18 year old, not long passed my test and a nice fast car to whizz up and down the autobahn. I do miss Germany something terrible. It was only a few years ago that I looked into jumping ship and moving over there. But the numbers didn't stack up. Which was a shame. But I still have a friends network left in place so visits can be arranged at short notice if needed ![]() 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

Yeah, the good old times and their pocket rockets! (had a Golf GTI, I know what you mean)
When I was a kid we were allways very excited when one of your Harriers came down (happenend quiet often) and we could rush to the near british military airport by bike to have a look before the MP closed the area down. Actually we were glad to see when the pilots managed to get out before the impact. |
