Was that just a irrelevant dig at BP, why would a 6-week old 90 be factory fitted with BP aftermarket wheels?

Personally I am buying a set of the BP Sawtooth alloys and having them changed to Graphite. I know they are available from LR in that colour but they are quite pricey (moreso than the black ones) so decided to go down the route of having them refinished at a local wheel specialist. New set of 265/75x16 BFG AT's and I will be booted again.

With reference to the dig at BP, I ordered a new Puma bonnet last week and decided to go for the BP option as it was quite a bit cheaper. Opened the box and there was my nice new bonnet C/W LR Genuine Parts stickers (as I suspected would be the case).

My DC had its wheels changed by myself after only 8 weeks and the ref of BP was that as your aware LR don't make everything for the cars some of it gets out sourced and as they've just started to sell them may be they are now supplying LR?
I'm glad that LR have resolved your problem by admitting there's a manufacturing fault with the latest batch 👍 It's good to be back from the dark side

Hi all,

Had all 5 wheels replaced last week FOC by LR Customer Services as a "gesture of good will".

to that, as far as I am conserned the wheels weren't fit for purpose.

LRCS said that if the problem reoccurred I would have to "take to a higher level"

Bet yr arse I will!

Point of interest though.... The new wheels have a blue/black finish, rather than black, and a harder feel to the surface. The originals felt plasticity.

Fingers crossed, I'll let you know how it goes.

Did they give a reason or say how many they've had back?

Only the usual "nobody else has complained of this problem" hence the gesture of goodwill.

The replys on the Forum tell a different story when it comes to the later production runs.

I've ruined 3 sets of LR alloy wheels over time on different vehicles. Whilst I'm no fan of their general quality, it just seems that alloys and offroading just dont mix that well, especially if the mud is a composition of clay with a high concentration of small stones then it just acts like a very efficient grinding paste - loose traction, spin a wheel and the surface finish is gone very quickly. I think some designs with the deep dish faired the worst, but all were prone.

I'm impressed LR have given new wheels and i hope they fair better than the first set.

Powder coated alloys (sawtooths) should cope better than spray painted or polished,diamond cut alloys,but that doesn't mean they are damage proof. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

I understand your point about damage caused by "hardcore off-roading" but, apart from driving down some farm tracks and over a few fields, most of the damage came about during normal road use. They are supposed to be heavy duty wheels fitted to "Best 4x4 By Far"

I have owned 18 various models of L/R vehicles over the last 30 years, and will be taking delivery of a new Disco Commercial in December,so I am more than aware of the quality issues that L/R has sufferer in the past. Funny thing is, even in the dark days of B/L ownership, I never had any trouble with the wheels. Manual gear boxes were a different story - 6 were fitted under warranty to my 86 R/R 3.9 EFI Classic inside 30 months!

As the Dealership pointed out to me at the time " you must have a good sense of humour to own a Land Rover".

Trouble is as you get older your sense of humour fades, but so do the bad memories and off you go and buy another one!

Don't you just love um- damm it!

To be fair I've had the new wheels nearly 3 weeks and they seem to be holding up ok.

Let's hope it was a batch production issue.
