300tdi Upgraded Alternator Wiring + Battery Cables
Hi guys,

I have recently bought a 100 amp alternator to fit to my 300tdi and need to upgrade the wiring to cope with the additional 35amps. I had a read around and people suggest using 16mm2 cable from the alternator to the starter and others say direct to the battery but which is the best option? Is there any harm in using 20mm2 to be cautious?

At the same time I would like to replace all of the larger cables such as those to the battery, does anyone know what size they are currently and whether it is worth upgrading them also?

Not sure if it makes a difference but I don't have a split charge system and just the one Numax battery but plan to add some work lights, additional 12v power sockets and possibly an LED bar to the front via a Blue Sea fusebox. A second alternator and battery will be added at a later date once I rebuild the Warn 8274 but that will remain on a separate system.

Thanks in advance,

Harry
