Where to get 305 65 18 tyres?
All the UK suppliers dont seem to stock them? anyone know how to go about finding them. I missed out on 2 on ebay, although still wouldnt have been much good Smile Defender puma dormobile camper

You could try searching under the high flotation size which would be 33.6x12x18

Alternatively you could be flexible about the profile and reduce it a little and go for Mickey Thompsons.

I had a similar conundrum with my Mach 5 wheels and went high flotation size to get the closest size/look I wanted to achieve.

Having just purchased a second set of Mach 5s a different size I will undoubtedly have to go through the same process again. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Be cautious though. The diameter should be ok at 823mm - mine are 828mm with no problems. You might clear the radius arms on full lock, though I would be surprised. If not, then you will have to reduce your turning circle or fit spacers. BUT with tyres that wide, they could stick out too far with spacers on. Also be wary of where you buy them. I saw them for £250 at TyresDirect.

On the issue of diameter, I have seen 295/75 r16s on a Defender - which would mean a diameter of 849mm! Now left.

Cheers the best price ive found is £250 which is for micky thompson (Ive not seen in the flesh so dont know the quality compared to BFG's ive always had?)
other question is a similar price I can get 315 70 18, these are again A/T tread for zero offset twisted wheels.
Im currently on standard suspension, but will most likely fit heavy duty to the defender they end up on. Does anyone know if they will fit? I know it will be close, the defender is only used short distances mainly as a toy and i have a sensible set of wheels to switch between so its purely if the will fit. Very Happy Defender puma dormobile camper

Close? It will be a tad under 900mm! I would have thought you would have to fit OME springs to lift it at least an inch, but I will leave it to anyone else here more qualified through unhappy experience to advise. Now left.

Tom,

they might look really good in that size, but you will create a bit of a nightmare with the handling on the road with her.

Speaking from experience, the best all rounder combined with the largest you can go without detriment is 265 - thats why LR never offered anything larger

Sorry but I have to disagree with the comment Grouse.

I run a 130 on twisted rims and 285 65 18s no issues at all it sits the road 100% better than a similar vehicle on the 235s landrover issue them with. Also helps offroad in many circumstances it damages the ground less due to the extra width as it is a heavy vehicle.

Yeah, the point is how far you want to go past 265 with the hassle! When I was trying to sort mine out, I really wanted 285s, and was willing to put up with the annoyance of accommodating them if necessary - and it was. I had to opt for spacers to avoid the tyres touching the radius arms. If I were to do it again, I would like to try either 295/75s on 16" rims or 305/60s on 18" rims. I would ideally like to do away with the spacers, but of course, it all depends on wheel offset too. Getting what you want with wheels & tyres is a juggling act between tyre width, wheel width, tyre diameter, wheel-offset, and wheel diameter! In my opinion 35" tyres (close to 900mm) are just a tad too far. After all your deliberations, the actual look comes into play at 35". It can look too much Carlos Fandango if you're not very careful. Now left.

I understand that wheel choice is an issue however if you go with 0 offset then 285 fits with no spacers or loss of turning circle,
Just fitted 16s on Dads new 110 and with 265s on and 0 offset looks tidy as ..... in my humble opinion

Offset can be a pig, as it plays around with the juggling act. Negative offset will pull the wheel away from the radius arms, but means hub adaptors are pretty much ruled out (so no fancy Range Rover wheels for you then). A positive offset will mean that the tyre/wheelarch won't get you pulled by plod, but can mean radius arm fouling. It would be MUCH simpler if ALL wheels were made zero offset, then all we'd have to think about is width and diameter! But oh no, we can't have a simple world, can we. Pist off, me? Now left.

Thanks again guys most likely this will be mainly for my next defender but if it fits the 90 it will be a bonus.
Think ill go with the 305 65 18 then by the sounds of it and seeing the pics they look big anyway.
Im aware the ride will be worse and no good off road but think ill get away with it how I use the car hopefully Thumbs Up Defender puma dormobile camper
