buyers guide
Does anyone have a link to buyers guide for td5?

I will be looking for a van 110. Are there any particular issues with the early ones 2000my as i believe they made a revision around 2002-2003. different dash rear lights.

would quite like to freshen one up with respray in black, its gonna be the shop truck.

There were some problems with the early Td5 engines, I believe they're called the 10P engines, and the later ones are 15P. An engine to TDi for!

I don't believe there is a buyers guide.

There is plenty to read on this forum - but could take a while.

If money allows go for a 2003 year vehicle - 15p engine TD5.

If budget won't allow there is nothing wrong with earlier cars although I believe a few of the heads have failed on 10p engines at circa 150k.

The older you go the harder it is to find a straight vehicle as many have been modded in many different ways. A 110 truck will probably have been used as a commercial vehicle so may look pretty tired!

A full respray will not be cheap upwards of £1500 better to buy one in the colour you want.

Check chassis and bulkhead carefully if they have not been protected waxoiled/ dinitrol they can have corroded fairly badly at circa 14 years old.

thanks, Because of my lower budget I expect to get the tiredness which is why I want to freshen it up, I will be doing much of the work myself with Terry from Revive doing the actual painting.

I didn't know there was an engine revision. Thanks for that info, Gonna try my best to get the post 03 one.

I am looking online and I think a budget of 5-6k should get me a reasonable condition one around the 2004 MY area, I think the ex environment agency ones are well looked after mechanically, a friend has a 2006 ex-electricity board one and its so heavily kitted out and has shutters on the sides which ruin the rear quarter/ above wheel arch.

I just want a standard 110 VAN which is relatively clean.

I would be happy to put replacement seats and such as said earlier in the thread re-painting isn't a bad option. I just think the panel vans look great in black. Could then have the masai style windows on the rear panels, at a glance you wouldn't notice they are windows!

When I am ready I might go to auction and get one direct.

There was a buyers guide for TD5's in LRO magazine in the May 2014 edition.
