Engine Parts
Has anyone ever looked at the base of their engine blocks - i was clearing out the diff guard/adding some waxoyl and couldnt believe how rusty some parts looked.

Ive just had a new swivel and looking at the PX side retaining ring - it looks well rusty, so i thought i would compare it to my discovery, no rust on that one.

Crazy - if i trusted the dealers i would at least complain about the seal retaining ring! waxoyled it instead Mike

Its bad - im with you...but im not so sure they build them, as the 200tdi poster:

"Lightweight, highly adaptable aluminium body is corrosion resistant and built for longevity"

I dont think at 2yrs old its too much to ask they are almost perfect corrosion wise Mike

Don't worry mates

a lot of engine builder now (the same on the new V6 and V8 JLR diesel engine, Audi and BMW) do not paint the cast iron block.

....."It is resistant to destruction and weakening by oxidisation (rust)".........

Finally, the block take a brown color but it's only a "cosmetic" problem, not functional or durable problem..... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
