Prop shaft balance and correct bolts?
What do you think of this ? Prop shaft balance put back together with this, 500 miles and ouch! What is the correct bolt and tension needed to do it correctly. Any advice welcome chaps :0)

Could you get clutch slip start if you rebalance the props? I am getting slip in 5th/ 4th on a gradient if I apply some acceleration. Love my new project, already think it will be a steep learning curve Rolling Eyes love this Landrover ! 2001 DEF TD5 County

Correct bolts are 3/8" UNF with Nyloc nuts (do not use setscrews), grade 8.8.

Propshaft balance cannot cause clutch slip.

Thank you blackwolf for advice and spec, much appreciated. Thought the vibration 50-60mph up hill was props, but likely clutch now. Had a go at props because slip in .4 and 5th was not obvious before now. 2001 DEF TD5 County

If you can't track it down to anything else, you could try fitting a double-cardan prop (similar to a Disco2 but unfortunately a different length) at the front.

It is food for thought that on the D2 LR fitted a DC prop at the front to reduce the vibration cause by the transfer box output flange and the front diff input flange not being aligned. On the Puma, since the engine is raised at the front the misalignment is greater, but a standard prop is fitted.

For some inexplicable reason some Pumas seem worse than others, but in some cases fitting a DC prop (which you can buy from Devon 4x4) will make a surprising difference.

You can of course test (if you haven't already) by running with no front propshaft fitted and with the centre diff locked. If the vibration is gone, chances are it is the front prop misalignment issue.

Can I advise that a very cheap thing to do is to properly adjust the handbrake to eliminate it before you look for more expensive fixes. Whistle

Cheers chaps for the suggestions, it will keep me busy. I suppose it is a case trial and elimination. Least I can fit the correct bolts to start. 2001 DEF TD5 County
