Flat dog, ome or other springs

Hi I'm just after a bit of feedback from those who have updated their springs

I have a 1999 td5 90 and want to update the springs from standard LR standard height to something a little more heavy duty. My reasons are that I have an overland trip in 4 weeks to pyrenees where the car will be loaded up more than normal and I also do quite a lot of towing of our large twin axle caravan with the car. At the same time I do not want to lose the off road ability that I currently have. I still want to keep the springs standard height as the car in garaged and even the smallest of lifts will mean it will not go in the garage. I am aware that if I fit a stiffer spring that it may produce a little lift and I will have to deal with this by either dropping tyre pressures or loading a load of kit into the back of the car before I put it away

I already have a good set of de carbon shocks fitted and have polybushed the car.

I like the look of the flat dog springs as they have a HD1 spring that appears to be in between standard and their HD2 spring which is the real heavy duty one.

Anybody got the flat dogs fitted who can offer any feedback please?

Any other thoughts on other makes like ome would be much appreciated,

D44 Eibach are worth a look, pricey though.

Both ome and d44 work well and I have had both and currently on d44.

I have tried lovells which lasted well( another Australian brand) and gave a good ride.

Just put some heavy duty terra firmas on for a long distance trip.will see how they fare compared to other ones.

As for cheap blue ones avoid.

OME have been great for years on my 90.

Will kit up the 110 once the warranty finishes. Got the 90 rears if you want them pm me

OME for me but they will lift the car 30-40mm @ the front and 50mm @ the reat based on ome 751 on the front and ome 762 on the rear 2004 TD5 Defender 90 xs station wagon

Hello,

What I have done is keep my standard springs and fitted a pair of air lift airbags in the rear. Been in for 4 years now and given great service, just add a little air to them to stiffen up the springs and best of both worlds.

Recently I have linked them together and fitted a pressure gauge to keep an eye on the pressure with a schrader valve inside the car for adjusting the pressure.

I'm in a very similar position to the original poster - 300tdi 90 with standard suspension. Not wanting a lift but need something that will hold the weight a bit better.

Roofrack, rear lock and fold seat, HD bumper, HD sills and then 4 passengers & associated camping gear all takes it's toll - especially at the back.

I'm tending towards HD rear springs (but standard height) but will watch the responses to this thread with interest.
