Alternator ?
Hi guys

Not that there is anything wrong with my alternator think its a ( 200tdi 65 amp ) but in time I want to fit a winch and wondered if its possible to swap it for a ( 300tdi 100 amp ) if so is it a straight forward swap or is there anything I need to do Smile Graham

Why not fit a 200Tdi range rover one?

Think they are 100 amps and all you need to do is rotate the mounting bracket 180 degrees Thumbs Up

Not sure if the connections are different on the 100 amp alternator, but not insurmountable. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Depends, if you still have the original loom for the 2.4 NA or 2.5TD then the 200TDI fits the defender alternator and Range Rover as they are the same from memory.

I have a feeling they changed it for the 300TDI as that was when they upgraded the loom from bullet connectors to proper plugs so the alternator may have changed with the loom upgrade.

Ether way, I can't imagine it being a big issue to replace the old plug with one that suits your new one.

Alternatively if you have a 3 V Pulley you can add an additional alternator which could supply power to your winch battery set up and keep your starter motor set up separate from your winch and accessory battery?

Think it depends if it is a Discovery one or a Defender one, the discovery one is often higher as it is running more and things like air conditioning.

A Disco 300TDi 100A alternator is a direct swop onto a Defender 300TDi but the cable will be rated for the lower output so will need to be replaced / upgraded. Both are lug connectors onto a stud.

Aprt from the 200TDi being a blade connector compared to the later one being a stud, isn't the earlier one a Vee belt? If so you will need to source the correct pully. ONE LIFE, GET IT!
