Hi Geoffery when we fit roof tents using Rhino Rack bars we tend to place them either side of the Alpine windows.

The inside of the bracket can be close to the Alpine window rubber. To a certain extent you can adjust the distance from the roof line by altering the length of the bar between the two brackets so that they clear the rubber

Think figures are length of Columbus 2.1m, fastening track starts 0.3 m in from either end. Closest two roof bars can be is 0.8m. We prefer to fit roof tents on 3 bars.

Thx! I did some measuring and it won't work. I want the roof tent to end flush with the end of the roof.
With my columbus the closest you can fit a roofbar towards the rear of the tent is 30 cm. That would be right over the alpine window on a 90 then. Guess I will have to invest in a full rack.

If you are not in a desperate rush to do things, we have Rhino Rack bars down at our unit.

Can try it out on our 90 and if need be take some photos for you so that you have a better idea of the clearance with the window rubbers.

A full rack in general cost more then bars and puts more weight up top.

Have just tried a Rhino Rack bar across the Alpine windows and they just touch the rubber seals on the Alpine windows.

Have spoken to one of our suppliers and these bars are not recommended across the roof windows as they can put pressure on the glass and there is a risk of either 'popping' the glass out or cracking the glass.

90 roof is 2.1 m long with the window seal starting 0.26 m from the rear ending 1.13 m from the rear.

Rhino roof bars would not be ideal for the Colombus and a 90 without some modifications.

Hope that is of some use.

Thx for your effort.
Looking in to alternatives...

To date I have not fitted Manbo bars over an alpine windows.

Nicking photos from Chris at Boab's site

Yes they appear to fit over the alpine windows.

IF (or should it be when?) I remember to put a Manbo bar across the Alpine window I will have a better idea of the clearance.

Sorry but I hate to guess and prefer to either check myself or ask someone who knows the answer.

works on my truck...

I used the 'toblerone headed' security screws. The screws over the windows I packed the head with an extra washer rather than the one.
