90p alitre in costco. But you can only use about 25% in summer at best. Some people are running twin tank systems, don't bother to be honest.

If I was considering doing that....and I might we having tested the water a little I'd be tempted to get some veg oil and mix it with some derv in a bottle and get an understanding of what happens.

do the two oils seperate overnight
do they mix well
does the mix look nice and thin like the derv or more like the veg oil

?

do this with varying percentage at different temps and then PERHAPS make an educated decision.

My understanding is that veg oil is quite a bit more acidic than mineral diesel so can cause problems in pumps with seals even in low quantities.

Aside from the difference in viscosity, Veg oil has a nasty habit of polymerising the engine oil, I.e. makes it go thick. Common rail diesels and Veg oil generally don't go together well.

I did use old engine oil in my Discovery II TD5.

Every spring, I changed the oil in all the cars, motorbike and lawn mowers, so I had at least 5 gallons.

I bought a large filter off ebay (like a big sock - it was only a couple of quid) and filtered it.

Then used it 1 litre to every fill up.

Never had any problems, and ran her to 187,000 miles until I sold her...still as sweet as a nut Thumbs Up

Filter like this (sold as a bio diesel filter bag on ebay):

I carried a spare fuel filter, just in case, never needed it.

On that basis, I used £25 of free fuel every year, and also saved a trip to the recycling plant to dispose of the old oil Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

For £35 is it really worth the chance?

I wouldn't pour waste engine oil in mine and i wont be burning veg in it either far to much risk and poss expense

As above common rail and veg isn't a good mix

I don't see the saving is worth it on a tdi either to be honest but thats just my opinion
