4yr service question
Can anyone confirm whether the Tbox and diff oils are changed at 48 months B service whatever the mileage. I have covered 33k at 48 months or only if the Puma has covered 80k miles?

I have been quoted £600 for the service with engine, tbox, diffs, and brake fluid change along with all filters.

Thanks in advance BM52

It just states the mileage. I had mine done at 2 years, B service at a main dealer. A full B service + oil change of transfer box! both diffs and gear box was £ 475 total. Also included both key fob batteries .
Is the £600 charge for the full B service including the oil change for the diffs and Tbox? If so I would look around. LANDYWATCH

^ I'm sure you had this already but in case you didnt, here goes.

If you have a CES near you, they're pretty good for supplying oils etc.

Just serviced my 110 for ~£80 when guy salmon quoted £350+VAT! Managed to get them to do a complete inspection for free when it was in because they kinda owe me one! Cheers, David

The glossary for the service sheet states the following:

Quote:
GLOSSARY:
MAIN SERVICE = The main service is applicable to all vehicles. It is carried out at 12 month or 20,000 km intervals, whichever occurs first.
Main Service "A" is applicable at 12 months/20,000 km, 36 months/60,000 km, 60 months/100,000 km, 84 months/140,000 km and so on.
Main Service "B" is applicable at 24 months/40,000 km, 48 months/80,000 km, 72 months/120,000 km, 96 months/160,000 km and so on. Some items do not need to be carried out at every main service and these
items are identified by an indicator in the tick box e.g. 60k (This indicates that this item is only applicable every 60,000 km)
NOTE: The service required should be at the time or distance stated, which ever occurs first.

It could be read either way. Every other item is serviced on a "which ever comes first" basis, so I don't think those oils will be any different.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure you're wrong there,

As far as I'm concerned, if it says 60k it means only at 60,000 miles. Otherwise it would say 60 month service Cheers, David

Agreed, logic suggests that the work is done at the mileage not the time stated...

Cheers

Simon

Ps My TD5 has only done 29k miles, and it's 12 years old, so I don't have specific evidence either way ... Very Happy

Since it's out of warranty, it's down to personal choice. My car probably won't be due a gearbox oil change until it's 18 years old (based current annual mileage), but I wouldn't be happy having 10 year old oil lubricating my gearbox, nor would I be happy buying a car that hadn't had an oil change in 18 years.
There are more factors that come into play than mileage, oils, belts, tyre etc. all age due to humidity, oxidisation and temperature cycling.

To be clear, I meant the logic of the service sheet. I was just trying to confirm the meaning of what the service schedule stated.

I agree that changing oil more regularly is a good idea. I believe that oil can degrade with age, as well as use.

cheers

Simon

I agree with mark. Everything deteriorates in time.

There are separate service sheets for different models and model years. I used the link here as a guide for my 300tdi. I think the dealer labour rate is the same for all older vehicles, just the time spent and consumables will be fifferent.

http://www.4x4network.co.uk/pdf/def-300tdi.pdf

I have had a looked locally for an alternative price, local indie inc MOT about £485 -£500. No loan car.
Main dealer £600 including MOT, 2 day loan car, warranty check/repair on paint and more convenient.
So.....i will use the main dealer BM52
