Yesterday I had a short visit to the new Bike Park Wales
Why short?

Failure of the front rim on my bike causing a bit of an off.

I still don't know how I came away with just 2 sore ankles and a bruised lower back, but I'm glad it was the very first run down the hill on a Blue (easier) track before running on the bigger stuff.

Proper OTB there, loved the super slo mo shadow of your bike going over your head. Glad you're ok and wheels can be replaced! What I'd be most upset is no matter how many more visits to Bike Park Wales, you'll never get as nice a day as that! Place looks worth a visit I must say, pity it'd take days in the 110 from Edinburgh...

It's great, been looking forward ever since it opened and I only managed half of one run, bit of a waste of the uplift ticket. Laughing

Mates said "how are you not that bothered?", well, bikes break and I'm just glad it wasn't on one of the black runs....or even further down this run as it would of been on top of rocks, I think I wouldn't be walking today. That's why I wasn't that bothered! Thumbs Up

The rest of the group I was with had a great day though.

I will be back soon as most of my family only live 20 mins away. Craig Rogers

No, the wheel is 2 years old, but checked at least once every 2 months in my jig.

It's the 2nd one I've cracked on this bike.

I now think that the factory optional powdercoating, which they've (bike maker, not rim maker) have now stopped doing is to blame. I can't imagine baking rims at 200deg is doing much good to them so I'm swapping to standard black ones.

I knew something was wrong immediately when I compressed off the top of the lip, however, I wasn't expecting the wheel to give way. Craig Rogers

Craig,

That was a lucky escape, I'm glad you walked away from it as it looked very fast in places.
It looks a fantastic place. Is it only for downhill bikes? We may have to come and take a look if not.

cheers Andy Cheers Andy

friend of a friend who lives out in the alps, did a few days with them last summer, turned out to be a interesting holiday with 3 broken ribs, dislocated hip and a bunch of other minor accidents, even had the helicopter pick up a lad that cased a double, wasnt anything wrong with him in the end fortunately...

have the video of the broken ribs crash too

No, you can run down this on a small travel hardtail. One of my friends who came isn't the most technical of riders and he managed a full day without incident on his 100mm hardtail.

Possibly not on the Black runs, but certainly the Blue and Red graded runs you can run on any bike.

The place is like a trail centre but with an uplift and is not really branded as a downhill centre to try and entice all abilities.

You can ride up instead of the uplift, but it's a big climb/push. £5 to get in, or £30 for a day with unlimited uplifts, although it's booked up for sometime.
