NAS step chequer plate replacement
I've just had a local sheet metal working firm knock up a new chequer plate treadplate for my nas step as I didn't like the style of chequer that came with it. It now matches the rest of the chequer on my 90 after I sprayed it satin black.

While I was there it got me wondering if their is any interest on here from peeps that are thinking of doing the same and whether replacement treadplates are readily available (I did a quick interweb search but didn't find anything). Chatting with the owner he said he could do a minimum run of 10 treadplates cheaper per item than the £35 I paid for the one-off. This would be for unpainted 3mm chequer plate, holes drilled and corners radiused. It might also be cheaper still if there was a minimum order of 20.

If anyone is interested either post here or PM me.

(Martin, apologies if this is in the wrong section, can you please move it if it is. Ta Thumbs Up )

Looks good Rusty. Just one thing. As that is brand new shiny ally chequer plate did you etch primer it before painting it black?

The metal is so smooth you will find the paint just flakes off after a while. This is what I have used in the past, http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...yId_165625 works a treat Thumbs Up

Thanks Geo. I haven't bothered with etch primer this time as I'll be repraying them all again next year. The paint seems pretty durable and I've not had any flaking as yet, just the odd scratch and wear mark on the cills from getting in and out of the landy. 2015 90 XS CSW TDCi - Beautiful

It depends on whom you buy your step from Lou. Genuine will have the rubber, but some copies have chequer plate or for less money, nothing...

Also the rubber on occasions does peel off...

My rubber tread plate is held on with plastic nuts and bolts similar to number plate bolts and can be removed/replaced. I recently removed mine when i had the rear step powder coated.

I will now find myself looking at all rear towsteps to see what they have on them ! 2005 Td5 90 XS

Does the NAS step have holes for tow ball or two inch receiver?

I like the idea of the two inch receiver hole that I have seen on some.

The real NAS ones (fitted to NAS Defenders) have a 2" receiver.

The version available outside the US - the "rear step bumper", technically not an NAS step - has tow ball holes.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thanks, so I need an original NAS, or does anyone make a "true" NAS copy.

I believe it can. Having had a quick read of this it seems that there is a DIY solution too but I'd be inclined to get it done professionally.
