Winch 'on' warning light
I have a winch fitted with a kill switch mounted on the passenger seat box.
What I would like to do is fit a warning light and mount it on the dash to remind me when I forgot to turn it off.
So how do I wire in the light? Positive side of the light to the positive output on the switch and then earth out to chassis earth ? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I have put an illuminated when on switch in my dash which isolates the trigger(for want of a better word, it completes the cicuit when on from the wander lead) that works the solonoids which I repositioned under the bonnet. This stops anyone putting a wander lead in the socket and using the winch but mainly it gives me peace of mind that some little kid playing with his remote car isn't going to be winching my bumper into a banana! It still doesn't do anything about your main isolater but a remote telltale on the dash on the winch side of the switch should do it.

As you said John, don't forget a fuse at the isolator end to be on the safe side

Cheers chaps.

What size fuse are we talking here? Clearly its not a 50amp maxi fuse! 1999 Defender TD5 110

Presuming you're using an LED or similar low wattage bulb, the smallest fuse you have available (4amp ?) would be fine, it's a safeguard against the cable that runs from the battery kill switch to the bulb getting damaged and going to earth.
