Thumbs Up Clive knows every section of a standard crossmember and has designed a new version that does not trap the water so will outlast the rest of your chassis. Laughing 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

Another vote for Clive (have a look in my gallery) I work at a welding and fabricating company so I've seen lots of welding and Clive's is amongst the best Thumbs Up

If there is any way you can afford to do the galv swap seriously consider it - especially if you are planning to keep the LR for a while. I had exactly the same issue a few years ago - at the time the choice was £120 for a crossmember or £1200 for a chassis. I went for the cross member and have regretted it ever since. Yet again I have just shelled out £170 for some wleding for this years MOT - the galv chassis would have been well on its way to paying for itself.

I would say your garage are pricing themselves out of the job as they do not want to do it.

Clive is a top bloke and you will not get a better crossmember anywhere in the UK

Whereabouts is Black Sheep Offroad based? Seems a bit coy about this on the website.

On inspection this morning I was shocked to find what the extent of the damage..
Nearly a whole 5p coin size hole on the passenger side and a hole maybe the width of a pencil on the other.
Hardly worth replacing the WHOLE crossmember for...

So, deal was struck I'm going to plate it myself then return it for the retest and they are going to carry out the work on the swivels as there were no more shims to be removed unfortunately. The drop link also going to do myself as the part was £70 and the labour was £200, No brainer really.

Planning on plating over for the test to satisfy the Mot man and then later in the year if and when I get a chance I'll get it cut out and replaced properly then ether waxoiled or dinntroled to give it some protection.

As much as I'd like to have a galve chassis, it doesn't need it yet.

Will upload some photos when home
