Massey 35 restoration

As some will have seen, recently bought an old 1958 4 cylinder 35 that will be restored and put to use as a light working tractor.

So thought I would make a small blog as to its process.

Seemed in pretty good nick, very original and no real rust, tin work in pretty good order. However is very difficult to start so rather than give it a basic service and clean up, have decided to restore it fully with engine rebuild etc.

Battery, fuel tank and air cleaner removed

Next job is to take out the wiring loom as its a complete bodge, also flush and take off the radiator and hoses as there are perished.

Will remove a few more parts this side and continue the labourous task of cleaning up.

Am undecided on how to paint, whether to go down the route of fully shot blasting and painting/powder coating or a light rub down and brush finish.

I will try from now on to get better pics and not use the camera phone where possible.

Nice, looks a really good base, I'd love to do an old tractor but time and space don't allow it, good luck with it and keep the updates coming

My dad and I rebuilt a 35 some years back.

he had the head sorted out, block re-bored with new pistons, and it was still a right pig to start, even from hot.

Ended up just keeping a can of easystart on it.

good luck with the restoration.
I took the easy route and bought one that someone else had restored

It's a '62 so the 3 cylinder version.
