Don't forget to remove your mug when finished messing about in the engine bay, as it stops the bonnet from closing.....or so I've been told. ![]() 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

I didn't know there was a cap for that hole. Mine is as yours is in the pic. I have used it to store spammers while under the bonnet.

in fact looking at it again you appear to have at least 2 bolts missing.

I rang my local useful dealership (as I'd only had my beast for a week and it was the first time I'd really looked under the bonnet properly) who were a bit clueless until I quoted the Microcat part number (LR006031 / 14 quid or thereabouts) and amidst a flurry of fawning over slightly irate customer have sent me one gratis, and quite rightly so. Am still clueless as they were as to the purpose of the aperture/cover and whether there should be something else in there (like a filter?) as other vehicles I've owned with a crankcase breather usually have an associated filter...

Many years ago whilst at LandRover I'm pretty sure an Assembly Engineer told me that when Ford were feeling a bit "Flush" the Engine Suppliers/Assemblers included this as a Filter Removal Tool as it was the only non standard tool needed to undertake a service. Then they realised they could save a couple of quid by not including it as more manufacturers move away from designs that allow owners to self service. Since then I just assumed that is what it was and find it has far more important uses like K9F says.

Dgardel actually went to the trouble of sourcing the 2.2 engine cover, adapting it he fitted it to his 2.4.
