Have a look here...

I can't remember the size off the top of my head though.

Looked that part up and I think it may officially be "Plate - locking, cable retained", part number LR016431 and is fitted with 2 x M6 x 55mm bolts.

Not seen any in stainless steel.

Mine are painted but with use will scuff as the catch is pushed down. I was thinking of fitting some helicopter tape to the face to stop this happening.

To prove that they are out there somewhere, I spotted this full stainless steel anti-luce kit in the car park at Spring Adventure yesterday:

Is that stainless or chromed?

If you have a word with a local chrome plating place they should be able to help by first galvanising then chroming to prevent rusting 2005 110 TD5 XS running Alive Stage 1 and a bit and other toys

Looked to be stainless to me.

Not sure I can put my finger on why but chroming it would not feel right and I would have doubts as to it's durability given the wear of the antiluce pin sliding across it's face every time you open and close the tailgate.

They look as if they have been homemade to me. It wouldn't be too hard to do, just a lot of filing to make them nice or get it water jetted.

Fitted my stainless catches yesterday. First surprise was to see that the original ones aren't round:

including the thread being chamfered away:

New ones are also a little shorter in the body so needed packing out with a couple of washers:
