Hello,
my landy is a 90 TD5 2005 model I am going for an overland to Morroco in March 2013 total(5000Km) with (2000km) offroad. I went to my mechanic as i spotted the famous oil marking landy territory, we made the trip oil and filter changes and lubrification needed. I asked if it was urgent to change the fuel pressure regulator but he said it was not important that this is a classic malfunction due to a fragile valve or O ring that ceases to seal and i should change when i come back. Should i do this? does this fuel pressure regulator could get worse, leaking increases or stops regulating! I have never changed before therefore it is an original spare. I saw there is repair kits but i prefer to buy and substitute with an original Need your advice on how serious or not it is for an overland.. I'd definitely get it sorted before heading off to Morroco. The first rule of those sorts of trips is to begin with a vehicle in good mechanical condition.
More specifically though, if left unchecked then the leaking fuel can contaminate the alternator. My '05 TD5 had a new alternator fitted just beofre I bought it for exactly this reason. Get that regulator changed ASAP. If you Do It Yourself I would definitely recommend buying a suitably small torque wrench, it is all too easy to over tighten the metal gasket.

I have just changed mine, and its not too hard, just a little fiddly. I found it much easier to remove the bonnet. The bottom bolt is a bit of a sod, but persevere and its easy. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Got it guys it could turn serious....it is a must do then!!!
mine will be LR016318 - Fuel Pressure Regulator and Connector - TD5 - 3 pipe entry (Marked Genuine) from paddock. Have to look for a 3 pipe instalation........ hope i get there quickly!! Che Happy Travel www.thegippo.wordpress.com |

I did this job on mine today,decided to go with genuine part as the original one has lasted eight years.
As mentioned previously the bottom bolt is a bit awkward to get to so i removed the two unions above it and this gave plenty of space to get a 10mm 3/8" drive socket on to it with no need for an extention bar and really speeded the job up (had previously spent 15 minutes faffing about trying to undo this bolt).I also removed the two unions from the new one to make ftting that easier. I reckon i could do it next time in about 45 minutes including purging the system and refitting the bonnet. 2005 Td5 90 XS Steve |

i have changed the regulator on my TD5 2003 90 in April original spare from LR. Good right up link below

The fuel temp sensor also happens to be the same for the water temp sensor as well, so worth keeping as a spare. 1999 Defender TD5 110
