My winch bumper was in a similar condition, so I took all the old plastic powder coat off with a grinder and then took the bumper and steering guard to a local powder coater who charged £60 for both.
So far its holding up well. Cheers Simon Last edited by couplands on 7th May 2013 9:03am. Edited 1 time in total |

I have no idea why manufacturers powder coat bumpers designed for off road use. Knowing that they are going to get knocked about why powder coat? No matter how good the powder coat is its going to chip and then moisture can get between coating and bumper and start the gradual peel.
My personal choice on bumpers side bars etc is to get a good deep galvanise, primer and then paint. That way chips can be easily touched up to keep it presentable. A good deep galvanised coating, from personal experience, seems to hold up extremely well against knocks. I've had a couple of really heavy rock hits on the side bars go deep enough that I touched up with a zinc coating. You can powder coat over a galvanised coating, but I've found this to be more brittle than over steel and touching up powder coat doesn't look so great after a number of touch ups. Cheers Steve |

similarly the roll cage needs attention but when questioned safety devices say that if you try to galvanise the tubes will bend and not fit!

How much abuse do you give it off road? Therein lies much of your answer.
