Scotland 1999 Defender 90 Td5 HT Caledonian Blue
TD5 Leak
Hello i don't know what this is to do a search so i've taken a pic so someone can advise on leaking diesel i noticed the wet patch last week, and could this be a potential problem for my spluttering and difficult morning starts.

My water sensor (the bottom black bit) was leaking a few weeks ago didn't cause any running problems but is cheap (about £15) to replace. The big canister it's attached to is the fuel filter, it could just be loose.

Could also be a porous filter head. Not uncommon and not cheap.

Tucker, might be teaching granny to suck eggs but mine was leaking, popped to my mates garage and when we tightened it real easy like it snapped off and launched diesel everywhere. My filter looked like yours and had corroded through

Similarly to Ade666, I've had a fuel filter corrode and start to leak - easy to change though It's been a long winter with a lot of salt about...

I'd be inclined to replace both - I had a similar problem with my TD5 Disco where the water in the sensor had frozen and caused a slight crack in the casing. Fuel filter is easy to replace and the water sensor the same - ten minute job, - P 2000 TD5 Disco II, front and rear winches, 2" lift, ARB bumper etc.etc. --
2010 TDCi Puma 90 HT - Bulkhead removal kit, Ashcroft front and rear lockers, Andersons front and rear, Warn XD9000i winch, battery split charge system, Patriot full roof rack. OME Suspension.

Well i received my new filter cleaned up all the surrounding areas and replaced my filter, did a purge and this is what its revealed.
Now how do i go about fixing this please, does it mean replacing the line or can you buy just the plug?

All sorted, i cut the plug off with the red rubber jacket as thats where the leak was, and replaced it with a short pieces of fuel line.
Went out for a nice drive and all is well..
