Constant stick....
Does anyone else here get constant stick for their Defender like I do from people they know and family? I.e. What it's worth and how much you spend on it / it costs. Really does my nut in there is so many jealous and nosey people out there that are obsessed with others and not taking care of their own lives. Evil or Very Mad
And then there is relationships.... You always have that nagging thought in the back of your mind when getting involved asking yourself does she love me or my Land Rover? Laughing Failing that it will be a hatred ordeal and they will see it as competition..."You love that Land Rover more than me" Yes, should be the answer. But probably best to keep quiet at that point and remember that job that needs doing you know the one the job that needs doing urgently that you've not done for the past 2 years which is an ideal excuse to scarper under pressure. Whistle

I have a verrrrry green relative who always looked down on my LR's until one winter I was sheepishly asked to tow them out of trouble when one of their vehicles bogged down on their land.

They now have a eurobox 4x4 and for some reason SUVs are OK now. Her husband drools over my 90 but he's not allowed one!

Having said the above I am always amazed that virtually everone I know thinks the 90 is 'cool' and they are facinated by it but will probably never get one themselves. BM52

We bought the 90 for the farm as it is the only real tool for the job, short, able to tow, robust and is a pickup. Every day i get some kind of snide comment from my old man in some way hating on it, he can't get in, he hates driving it, it too heavy, tall, thirsty and loud, it is unreliable all that sort sort of guff which he then compounds be trying to tell me his jimny is the better all round car for farming. Winds me up no end. Oh and add in that there is no time or budget for running repairs or modification to improve the defenders innate ability i really start to wonder why i bother. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

to answer your questions:
- your money, your choice what you spend it on (assuming you are not starving you children so you can have a leather sun visor!). if you have jealous family and friends you need to avoid those family members and change your friends.
- if the girlfiend loves your landy more than you it does not matter as long as you are getting your leg over.
- if she complains that you love your land rover more than her she is right and she will have to come to terms with that , or she can move on.

Lambert - How on earth can a Jimny be better for farming that a 90? We had one for a few months and it was like a little toy I'd be surprised if it could tow even a tonne. Also smaller / equal in size interior to a small car. Waste of time. Oh and indicator stalk on the wrong side. Whistle

F-G - You make me smile. Laughing I find it just so funny how they can see an inanimate object as opposition to their affections. Whistle Saying that maybe it's because they want the money (yours / mine) to be spent on them instead a sort of jealousy type thing.

GUM - Tell me about it. Rolling Eyes That's why I've effectively told the types that don't like it in my life you know the Citroen and Pug owners where to go permanently. Peace at long last....

Really gets on my nerves that people are so obsessed with what I've got / our LR's and not take care of their own business. Evil or Very Mad I personally don't go round passing comment or degrading comment on others what ever car they've got. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

Misses loves the Defender, has agreed to go travelling with me in it and help out with saving for the trip. She is going on LRE days next month to get a bit more confidence driving it.

I have never found any women who like me for my car and found it more to be their sister's boyfriend's who want to be 'bessie mates' than anything else.

Begs the question Steve of what kind of women are you talking to and maybe need to find a better watering hole to meet your next 'victim' Twisted Evil Rolling with laughter . Killer is doing a special on Duct Tape at the moment.

Chin up, im sure its fairly easy to christen a 90 Razz

Gum, I do get the grief you get from family members on how much I spend..... I still have my Mobile Centre invoice hidden under the cubby box Embarassed ===================================

Lish - I steer well clear now and not been talking to anyone. In fact just the other day I was complimented on how "cool" it was so all good really. I'm mentioning past experiences. Reason I'm mentioning this now is more family orientated than anything. Jealousy and green with envy issue.

Sir Vikal,
I think your name is brilliant and should be kept! Thumbs Up Do you occasionally Deck Crew for Condor Ferries?
Moving quotes you click on the 'quote' button highlight the text, right click and a little screen pops up, left click on 'copy' in the little screen. Go to thread where you want to post the quote press the right button and the little window reappears. Finally left click on the 'paste' bit in the little pop up screen and the quote will appear. Have tried to keep it simple as I know the Deck Crew and the part-timers well. Would have sent a 'pm' but that's probably stretching the bounds of possibility a bit far.

Hi Steve,
Tell your critics my little story, 6 years ago I bought a 1995 300 TDi 90 hard top for £3,500. Of course I've had to spend a little money maintaining it now and then but no more than any other car would cost for services. I sold it today to a dealer for £4,100. How many of your critics will be able to sell their car after 6 years and make a profit? Very Happy
