Exactly the experiences I've been having over the last few days of cold. I had her serviced a few weeks back so I'm putting it down to general Land Rover behaviour. Once going she's still bloody wonderful but it puts a little pause in my heart when I start her up for the first time that's all. The blueish smoke is not prolonged and the sluggish startup is not really any worse than myself getting out of bed on such a morning

Same problem here. Running on Sainsbury's diesel. I switched to Esso Super Diesel & problem gone. Much better at cold running, smoother, less rattles & resonance, better at low rpm traffic crawling as well. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

My 07 Puma used to do this. Since installing a BAS no-EGR remap it doesn't do it anymore, and also starts more promptly and smoothly, without smoke, and runs far better.
Also goes like stink and is much more fun to drive! |

Mine has just come back from warranty work. This was one of the issues-had a "software update" no different. Fires on about 3rd turn, smokes then clear.

Hi John you add 5ml of 2SO per litre of diesel. It must be a mineral JASO FB spec (not semi synthetic) - in fact the cheapest you can get. If you want to know why do a google search and there are thousands of posts on this subject ! Carplan motorcycle 2so from Tescos or B&Q is only € 6 for a litre bottle. Seems to be the cheapest. |

Hi John
you add 5ml of 2SO per litre of diesel. It must be a mineral JASO FB spec (not semi synthetic) what will happen if you use semi synthetic 2so? First time I read this, will be the day I went and added 2so for the first time in my appliance. ![]() ![]() |
