Air Con upgrade?
I just came back to Windhoek from vacation in South Africa. Wife complained all the way! Temperatures were well in the 40'C, with a max in Upington of 47'C! Hot as hell!

Anyone knows if there is something I can do to upgrade the aircon? She wants me to trade the 110 for a Disco 4! I don't really want to do it!

Another alternative that you may have not considered is to upgrade the wife! Wink Wink

I find anything over 30 deg and the aircon starts to struggle. Best is to put it on full blast and re-circulate the air, and only use the top vents.

As for the wife, get her one of those spray bottles from a hardware / garden store, and fill with water.

I crossed Spain last summer first days of August, with temperatures surrounding 40º/42º (never got to 47º it's true) and the aircon behaved very well! Recirculating the air, and on position 2 or 3 (noisy as hell though). Did spent an obscene amount of diesel more, it's true!

Is your AC working allright? Regards
Joao

I got a HCPU 2 seater, small cabin, and at mid day, 36°C, blazing sun, aircon struggling ...

I will put on some of that solar film on the windows one of these days. Should cut out most of the heat of the sun coming in through the windows.

And have to put some insulation on the floor and bulkhead, get rid of the cat etc etc.

We run the car at 2, recirculate and only blowing from the "frog eyes" and centre bits.

If I run it on the window vents we get condensation on the outside of the windows due to the high humidity here.

Put your foot down and tell her Africa is not for sissies Rolling with laughter

On a more serious note, do a decat, which will alleviate the cabin heating up, and do an air-con regas? --

Unfortunatley lads, we're having the same issues in Oz. It would appear Land rover built the air con system for 'English' summers Big Cry

Have a look here

I hope this does not contravene any forum rules by putting a link to another forum, if so I apologise in advance.

That's what the heaters for!

Air con was installed to reduce legroom even more and to make overseas owners in hot countries moan as much as we do!

Thanks, she is going in for a turbo gasket next week, I will ask LR to check the aircon gas and find out who could do a decat here in Windhoek.

I experienced similar through the Karoo although we still got cold air......just not cold enough. Booked in for monday for an oil change and will be checking the aircon gas also.

I also have experienced this in my e46 BM. At around 45 to 50 deg C the aircon really battled to cool the car down. "Overlanding With Bruce" - Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@OverlandingwithBruce

You definitely have something wrong with yours then. What temps are you talking about.

All 4 of our cars (BM, Landy, Citroen and Suzuki) battle in high temps (45 deg C +) as well as my old mans cruiser. "Overlanding With Bruce" - Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@OverlandingwithBruce
