Whats the legality of fitting a tubular A frame these days i thought you could only fit the soft ones.Had a soft one on mine when i bought it but did,nt like it so took it off would like a tubular one though. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Looks like it's fastened on using the chassis bolts (without any drilling)????

Looks good Thumbs Up What is it Question Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

i always view stupid laws like that as guidelines Very Happy if i`m gonna hit someone i want them to know about it, not bounce off Twisted Evil Very Happy. plus i think the steel ones look better.
it bolts straight on with original bolts or they can supply stainless ones, which i got. LIFE`S TOO SHORT TO DRIVE A BORING VEHICLE

Rubber ones are a PITA to mount anything to as well and doesn't look as purposeful. It's a stupid law trying to ban A bar's yet winch bumpers are fine. Rolling Eyes

Have got no problem with the fitting of one just thought they were illegal after a certain year of vehicle manufacture.
I remember some do gooder type being interviewed on the telly when they were trying to ban bull bars saying that some of these bull bars were at the same height as a childs head,well i,ve got three kids and their heads are all at different heights ! 2005 Td5 90 XS

as far as i understand the rules is that if you have a steel a bar that is made before 2005 `you` can fit it to a new vehicle, but you cant buy a new bar and fit it, dont know for sure if its right but i did read it somewhere !!!!!!!! LIFE`S TOO SHORT TO DRIVE A BORING VEHICLE

Have seen tubular A bars advetised as "off road" A bars so there may be something about fitting a newly manufactured one. It was on there when i bought it officer Whistle 2005 Td5 90 XS

Having seen the aftermath of a Defender hitting a 12-year-old child straight on I can say that a-bar or not is unlikely to make much difference. The kids go underneath...

Yes they will make a difference, but it's very small. If you're concerned with the moral rights or wrongs of your car's pedestrian friendliness then a Defender is not the right car for you!
