Storm
Had a real bad storm out here last weekend winds up to 98 mph, saw a 55ft wave go through on the sensors, the Vos Sailor a standby boat got battered, killed the lad on watch when it took out the wheelhouse. Thoughts and prayers are with his family. Sad

They standby the rigs to rescue us if we fall in or there is an emergency evacuation, hard job for them sitting out here through any weather. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

That is tough being killed whilst sat there on stand by for rescue duties.

Makes one think about how dangerous certain occupations are.

One question which springs to my mind is how unusual are 55 feet waves? I am just wondering why the wheelhouse was damaged if that wave was not a complete freak wave outside normal design parameters?

That is a big :censored: and sometimes waves stack up you can get a freak set come through, compare the Vos Sailor to other standby vessel and you will see she is smaller than most. Those who have experienced 100 mph winds at sea will understand how wild it can be, it's like hell unleashed the noise is incredible Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Thanks Pete.

A bigger wave then normal, a smaller standby rescue ship and the proverbial hits the fan so to speak.

Holy crap, that's one hell of a lot of water pushing through there Pete. Was at the RNLI centre in poole at lunch today - couldn't have been further from the conditions you've had this week. Beautiful clear skies and Poole harbour glistening like a mirror, makes it hard to imagine what you and the guys out there go through and certainly puts your unique view on life into perspective.

Stay safe mate.

So sad,
Loss of any life is bad, but worsened when that person loses his/her life while at work.
Thoughts go to his family and friends x its only a car!
