Shocked Why does the owner have to pay?
It must be covered by the garage insurance... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

My last 110 got broken into at the dealers while it was there after a breakdown. smashed window, scratched paint work. GPS and some tools stolen. Dealers would not do it on their insurance so had to be done on mine. I got my insurers legal department on to it as I pay extra for that service but sadly it turned out I did not have a leg to stand on as they had taken precautions(ie secure parking) so they were not liable. that was a shock. But I do not know why this is not covered on the garage insurance?

Whoops - had a similar incident a few years back with my S3. Left it at the garage for mot/service when I was on holiday, returned to find a new wing and bumper on it with an apology from garage (apparently someone had backed into it in the shared carpark, so they picked up the tab)

Shame it wasn't the other wing which I'd already dented on my gate post - duh.

In this case I'd have thought that garage insurance would cover it.

On a trade policy, there is a section called 'Road Risk'. This is the one which allows you to drive any vehicle that you are licensed to drive. This can also be tuned to work hours, any under business/work time, or the full on drive anything anytime fully comp.

He should be covered on this, provided his insurance is good.
