VW Polo Forum
Hi,
I have a Seat Ibiza and one of my sons has a Polo both with the 1.2 engine which i will be servicing. Haynes is useless for a fault on the Polo - a misfire on the 3rd cylinder code P0303. Before i start taking everything to bits i wanted to understand more about the coil packs etc and how they fit as they seem to need a special removal tool.

I was wondering if anyone knows a good VW/Seat forum - just trawled the internet and can't find any with worthwhile content.

Thanks BM52

More air cooled, but with a growing water cooled movement, try http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/

Not had personal experience of the 1.2 speed triple, but on other petrol motors in the group, the coilpacks are retained with a pair of M6 allen cap screws. Simply remove the screws and grab the top of the pack and give it a tug upwards. They're sometimes a bit tight where they grip on top of the plug ao require a bit of a yank. Some variants also require you to unclip the multiplug connector first too as there isn't much slack in the loom.

thanks for the updates, i will have a look over the weekend, won't drive it until it has been checked.

Greeni - found a thread on Volkszone that suggests either coil or stuck valve. Hopefully it's the coil or sparkplug.

Killere - cheers, look forward to any links

Pete - don't think these engines have screws fixings, they seemed to be 'jammed' in and a special removal tool needed. still need to try and find what they look like so i can either buy one or fabricate one.

My Step son brought his girlfriends bluemotion Polo round for a service, it pulled up i thought it sounded terrible, thats got to be misfireing, opened the bonnet scratched my head once all the plastic covers were removed 3 cylinder engine no wonder it sounded odd. Goes like a scalded cat round town but doubt you would want to do more than 30mins up an A road or motorway revs its valves out at 70. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Noworries - agree re the round town bit, we had 5 in it once and it really struggled up hills, no grunt at all for lugging but a great local car. mind you he has driven many 200 mile runs in it without any drama, an excellent car for a new driver and strongly built to boot. BM52
