Vague Steering
How much steering wheel movement should there be before the wheels move. My 2007 Puma which has done about 8K has about 3" of play before it takes up the slack. Is this normal? What if anything should I check?

I presume you are referring to when the engine is running, if so you have a problem, maybe a failed track rod, a steering box problem, panhard rod bush or wheel bearing failure.

Suggest you get it checked ASAP. Richard

Get somebody to move the steering wheel with the engine off and you check what moves and what isn't moving you easily see where the problem might be. Roel

There is some adjustment I think - I mentioned excessive steering play when mine was last serviced - they said they checked it and found nothing actually at fault but were able to make some adjustment (don't know what) - it did improve it to acceptable straight-ahead levels, there's still an inch or two of play at full lock though...

5.00pm and its dark. I'll look underneath tomorrow and then take it to the dealer for him to check/adjust. The car seems to live at the dealers these days!
I'll keep you updated.

Chelsea had to have new track rod ends as she was suffering from vauge steering, I think she had them changed at about 8k

Got car back from dealer today. Steering much better, said they adjusted something. Whatever it was they adjusted it worked.
