I got a spare key for the fuel cap cut and it is stored in the cubbybox in a little plastic container. It is one of those used for rolls of film. That way you can open the fuel cap without the ignition key and fob getting in your way (and scratching the paint work) Have done this for all my Land Rovers. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Got the new cap delivered today... Wrong one without locking mechanism!
![]() Could drill a hole in it that will fit the barrel but I don't think it will work. ![]() Putting a fuel key in a container might work but I would rather have as less different keys as possible. Having an seperate key for the cap also enlarges the chance of forgetting the cap (with the key) at the petrol station. |

I have replaced mine but it was a while back. If memory serves there ought to be a pin on the bottom of the tumbler that locates to a hole in the housing. This is only accessed once the body of the cap is stripped down. I found all this out after spending 3 hours carefully drilling out my old tumbler. This is for a 300tdi others may be different. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
