Module - Door Lock and Alarm (YWC500640).
My Defender (Puma, MY 2010) is 2 years and 2 months / 93.000 km. My "Remote Control" (RC) could not unlock the door. No reaction. Opened the door with the key, it went smoothly. Would then not start. Taking the key out and back again. Now the car started normally. I was thinking that RC battery is flat, well back home, I try with the other RC. No reaction. This battery was also flat. It's probably because I usually switch to using both RC and now they are used for 2 years. (I thougth). Next day the batteries in both RC were replaced at the workshop, they would encode the key-fob, but their "service-computer" could not immediately communicate with the car. It is used 4-5 hours without the RC would work. The "Module - Door Lock and Alarm» is removed and a new one ordered from England. On Thursday, the new module was installed, but would not communicate with "Service-computer." Half a day goes by, without success, and they take computer printing to send it to the factory in England. The old module is inserted again and bingo, RC works. The problem is solved, but you do not know how or why. The next day, Friday, I lock the car with the key. The alarm-light continue twinkling after I have unlocked, the immobiliser is on. The alarm is silent but persistent flashing and the car will not start. No matter what I do, it does not help. The car was dead. Luckily I asked the day before the workshop to get the EKA code to my car. I used it now and I could deactivate engine immobiliser and drive home. (The car is now without an alarm). Could the problem be that the batteries were not replaced by the guidelines contained in the manual? It says: ....do not remove the battery until you are ready to install the replacement. The engine will immobilise five minutes after the key is removed from the starter switch. If battery replacement is not completed within this period, the emergency key access code will need to be entered before the remote control can be synchronised. I would suggest that we make an effort to follow the manual's instructions. The workshop has never had problems with changing batteries in Td5. There are perhaps other instructions on the Td5! That would not have caused an issue as all that is required to rectify this, is to do a resynch between the fob and AS10 as the fobs have already been learned.

Last Thursday I was again (for the third time) in the workshop, but they had not received any advice / tips from England. So, outside the workshop, I decided to replace the battery according to the guidelines in the manual:
Battery replacement 1. Unlock the vehicle and disarm the alarm. (Alarm had already been pacified weeks ago) 2. Turn the starter switch to position II, then turn to position 0 and remove the key. 3. Carefully prise the remote control apart. Start from the key ring end, using a coin or small screwdriver. Avoid damaging the seal between the two halves of the case and do not allow dirt or moisture to get inside the remote control 4. Slide the battery out of its clip, taking care to avoid touching the circuit board or the contact surfaces of the clip. 5. Press and hold one of the buttons for at least five seconds (this will drain any residual power from the remote control). 6. Fit the new battery, ensuring that correct polarity is maintained (+ side facing up). Finger marks will adversely affect battery life; if possible, avoid touching the flat surface of the battery and wipe them clean before fitting. 7. Press the two halves of the remote control firmly together and ensure that both halves are fully joined, to prevent moisture from entering the remote control. 8. Operate the lock (padlock symbol) button at least four times within range of the vehicle, to resynchronise the remote control.. 9. Press the unlock button once to unlock The remote control is now ready for use. → Yes ☺ The remote control worked again, also key-fob2 lying on Cubby box. The workshop would keep the car (and use it) until the next day to see that the problem was solved. There were no problems. We agreed that we would forget that I had been there.
