2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Java Black
Gearbox oil filler plug leak - advice needed
My 2007 Puma MT82 gearbox leaks from the filler plug. I have drained it down and put in the correct 2.2L of oil and used a crushable copper washer but it still seems to be blowing by slightly. It then drips onto the hot exhaust directly below which crosses over at that point and vapourises coating the back of the truck with oil.

I've got a new plug and a solid copper washer but don't know whether I should use it or not? Or whether just to try the new plug on its own?

Don't know why this has occured in the first place. Big Cry

Anyone else had this problem? Or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Wow! That's odd/interesting. Are you sure the oil is coming from the filler? Is it tightened to 35nm? If the filler plug looks OK, and the crush washer is good, then are the threads OK in the 'box? Try some PTFE tape on the threads?

I had a look at the workshop manual (if you want a copy PM me), and I can't see anything else which could leak in the vicinity of the filler... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Yeah - definitely the filler plug and it's tightened to 35nm.

I replaced both plugs with normal 20ish mm bronze hex type. Much easier to handle than those ridiculous OE plugs. Puma 110" SW
