the webasto units are not left or right handed, but because mine is a LHD, I bought a fitting kit from Webasto Switzerland, I will be kicking myself if Tim at MobileCentre can get them Shocked

The units vary from £850 - £1100 depending on how nice the dealer is, and the unit comes with prettty much all you need for a standard installation, however I used the Swiss kit because it keeps the unit up out of harms way, easy to service etc.

The additional installation kit was about £200.

I was told the kits come with the timer unit but mine did not .. so I opted for the square one because I think it looks better on the dash.

I also opted to remove the fuel tank and install a seperate feed direct from the tank rather than "T" ing into the fuel pipes.
I also opted for the one-way valve as recommended by Daniele

All in, with my basic mechanical and electrical skills has taken about 3 days to install and test.

@Tim - if you need any info on the kit just drop me a PM but they are LHD only so I would imaging a low demand

We are a direct Webasto dealer so can get the LHD & RHD fitting kits. As you say the thermo top C is universal. We fit ours under the wing using some custom brackets so it is out of the way.

When we fit one it is a full (LONG) days job to do it with two people on most of it.

What kind of heating system is this? To preheat the interior passenger compartment, or to preheat the engine coolant prior to winter cold starting? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
