why not mod the cubby box? alot easier

I'm not a wood and leather worker!

Having spent a fortune on a brand new car I am not keen to start drilling holes and cutting up bits that will cost a fortune to replace/repair. Bolting bits on and modifying them as necessary is much easier IMO

He's only got his avatar there.

Either way, the security box is coming out and my demountable, extreme4x4 towbar goes on in between decommissioning my mates 90 ready for sale.

I'm busy with my veteran car all next week so the box will have to wait.

Look under Safe in my gallery - I took the wooden battens off the cubby box and it fits fine - no probs.

I am so bad with wooden stuff that I mostly get my co-driver, Yogi, to do it. By coincidence he hates electrickery so I do that for him, generally.

On the list to try tonight. Hopefully that will be a good compromise.

Cheers

was bored for 10 mins so I had a look and the rails came off in my hand .. almost!

I put the cubby box back on and it really does not look right raked back and there's not really enough material to hold the bolts/washers from pulling through. That said I moved the box back by about an inch to reveal the key for the security box and amazingly it leaves me the right amount of space to shift gears and steer without fouling the edge of the cubby.

It's an easy one to try - 4 new holes in the security box and try it for a day or 2. As ever - easier and less likely to go wrong than bringing out the angle grinder!

Photos in due course.

Tried a few things last night:

The box looks and feels wrong without the rails to keep it level.

I also tried moving the box back an inch or so, behind the lock, but found that although I had perfect positioning for steering and gear changing It fouled on the rear seats when folding them up.

I measured up the security box last night and will save 4cm or so in height which should be perfect. This job is on my 'to do' list but will have to wait until after the 12th when I'm at Biggar Steam Rally with my 100 year old car.
