Tips for England and France
Hi

I'm going to Billing in the end of this month... Very Happy

After the show I'd like to stay there for a few more days (maybe till the 4th of August), so I was hoping that you could give some advise on places worth going during that week...
Any tips? I'm towing a caravan....

I was thinking of crossing over to France on the 4th or 5th of August....
Any tips on plces to visit or go on my way to Spain? Still towing a caravan...

In Spain I have some ideas on where to go through...

Need some tips quickly, my Mrs is getting impacient as there are only two weeks left and and the only thing I've booked is the trip to Billing....haven't though about the rest! Razz
Thanks guys! Regards
Joao

While this isn't useful on where to stay, visit etc. it may be worth a look as there are various bits of equipment that must be carried while driving in Europe Rolling Eyes (this varies by country so have a look at the PDF).

Just keep in the back of your mind the Olympics are on, so you will be pretty hard pressed to find camp sites around any of the venues unless you are extremely lucky. Sometimes it might be worth looking at places near to towns with a railway station so you can hop on a train to get around cutting out the parking hassles etc.

I know that...But London, the big cities and it's suburbs are out the question for me...

Just wanted some tips of places/towns/cities of interest to visit/go to, since I'm going to spend money to get there. I was thinking of leaving Billing and get to know a few more of England.....and then France.... Regards

Hopefully I can get you your hinges before you leave - they do love Puma bonnets in the UK Laughing Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Depending on your route through Spain I would recommend asturias and Galicia. Cangas de onis is really nice.
When you get to England you should try to get to yorkshire, it's not called god's own county for nothing.
If you are wanting small friendly caravan sites I would suggest you look at cs sites on the camping and caravan club http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/ it is accessible to non members. These sites only have space for 5 caravans but are usually very reasonable. We spent the weekend on one at a club meeting but it is a site I would happily recommend to anyone.

the Cotswolds are quite scenic too (about 2 hours West of Billing). If you are coming from Billing you could visit Warwick Castle; followed by Stratford Upon Avon (Shakespeares birthplace) followed by Broadway (caravan site there) and do day trips to Bourton on the Water and Cirencester with nearby Roman villas. After that head south to Bath and then back to catch your ferry?

How long have you got? Logic would suggest making the most of the coast, Bordeaux, Biarritz etc. (and learn to speak Euskara), if you really want to live it up, Google “Route Napoléon”, go down South on that and Westwards along the Mediterranean coast.

As for the UK, the nicest people and places are to be found in Scotland (I’m not Scottish by the way, I’m a Cockney).

Thumbs Up
Thank you all for the tips!
Been doing lots of digging in the internet...
My Mrs has cut out some days over there in England...she doesn't want to rush back home, wants to come back slowly - and since we're towing a caravan it's probably the best...so I might leave england on the 4th of August and not the 7th as I have planned.... Sad

And as I want to go to Solihull Driving Experience and Billing (my choice! Mr. Green ) she gets to pick the rest of the days over there! Embarassed ...we're probably going to Liverpool and Salisbury/Stonehenge...
Then maybe Paris and/or Biarritz (depends on time vs money) ...then north of Spain (Cangas de Onis is allready on the list! thanks Barbara!) and back home! Regards
Joao
