About to build the ultimate V8 90
Hello Guys,

Thought you might be interested in my project which is just about to kick off.

I currently have two cars, from which I am about to make one very special defender.

My defender is a 1984 Factory V8, which featured in LR World in 1998 as a 'Trekker 90' Convertible from Grand Western Developments in Devon - they turned it into a cabrio with tuned 3.9, auto, leather, etc etc and since then many mods have been carried out including a repaint, TVR engine, NAS lights, etc etc. They built about 10 of these.

Originally blue, she was then red and is currently silver,

However after 28 years the chassis is knackered and I have bought a replacement from Richards

I have also sourced the entire station wagon gubbins from an Anniversary, new doors, Safety devices rollcage as per 50th, forward-facing rear seats,

My second vehicle is an overfinch discovery mk1 from 1995 with 5.7 chevy, suspension, brakes etc..............

Has anyone guessed yet?

here is the vision...............................................
V8 staion wagon, 4-seater as per current 90XS with full NAS Rollcage, heated seats, mirrors, screen, etc

Atlantic Green(the lightest heritage TD5 colour), cream roof, black bumpers, black chequer plate sills, black NAS rear step etc,

Sillver firestyle wheels as currently fitted

2-inch lowering

4-speed auto with 5.7 chevy - currently being rebuilt as follows
Edelbrock e-street aluminium heads, performer-plus Cam, Performer inlet, roller rockers, 600cfm carb, Stainless headers, full stainless system with Vortex Race silencers, etc - expecting 360bhp and 420lbs torque - (the standard overfinch chevy lump is the L98 from Camaro - 250 bhp and 330lbs - not what overfinch claim but still more than any Rover V8 fitted to LR products)
The Gearbox is uprated Ashcroft ZF 4-speed with huge Converter
All the suspension, steering rack, calipers etc from the Overfinch refurbished,
Complete re-trim - all interior will be black, apart from headlining in grey.

All in all should be very nice - Currently putting finishing touches to the engine and will run it for 500 miles or so in the Disco

Then we will build a rolling chassis using the Disco running gear, mounts, calipers etc, then strip the defender down, refub and paint everything as necessary and then build it all up onto the new chassis. I might invest in a galvanised bulkhead.

Anyway - looking forward to it all - if anyone has anything constructive to add that would be great.

Sounds good Thumbs Up

One comment re the bulkhead.
At some point I am going to put a new BH on the 90 and we have had a long debate at work about galv vs plain.
The Ashtree galv BH's are refurbs, new metal put in etc. The point the people at work made was how would the internal galv be where welds etc were ?

After many hours, it was a slow day, we decided the best line of attack was a standard new BH and get it sprayed.
Then turn it upside down and block all the lower holes and fill with waxoyl or similar and leave for a week or so.
Then drain the excess wax off and do the same the right way up.

The other option was a new BH and get that galvanised, just make sure it does not distort in the heat.

When I do mine I think I will go the plain BH and waxoyl route.

A simple tape recording of the V8 tunes would suffice Wink
