Thought i would share this with you all. A VERY rare beast has come into my hands for a major restoration and rebuild after spending 30 years in a field in lincolnshire. Anybody of you recognise it????

Both correct . One of 15 genuine factory 100" prototypes built for the swiss army in 1978 and the one and only 2.25 petrol auto . Wont be starting this project for a few months as the chassis is a complete one off (combination of RR series3,1 tonne with bits from all) even the rear crossmember is a completely unique design. It is also fitted with a chassis mounted gun turret behind the rear bulkhead. Seems wierd looking round it and seeing bits that shouldn't be there or havnt made it to production
going to be a BIG project Paul p.s ,axles siezed solid, unknown gearbox/engine condition, brakes siezed etc.etc the list is bound to grow Last edited by marsie on 7th Jun 2012 9:30pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Jeremy- will do,going to have a custom replica galv chassis built, galv bulkhead, full mechanical overhaul and a full respray to name a few. Then it will be off to its new home in France. A good customer of mine found it(along with a factory 100" leaf sprung ) up for peanuts last year. I have already done him 90-300, 109 safari, light weigh 2a and series 3 88 Forgot to mention that there are also 10 deep dish 1 tonne rims in the back ready to go on Paul |

Proper 1 ton rims, not 130? If he wants to sell any of them I need a set!
What was the leaf sprung 100? Wasn't aware of any factory ones of those? |

Yep proper 1 tonne rims(rivited not welded). will ask but dont think he will sell, He was talking about putting 5 on this and 5 on his lightweight
Never saw the leafer but was told it was also a 100" soft top from similar era but with v8 and stage one style front end,had 1 tonne(2 position) spring mounts. Would'nt be suprised if he buys that too . Apparently that was in worse condition than the coiler |

That's a very exciting find! It would probably help to talk to Dunsfold as they have several other vehicles from that batch including this 5 door station wagon and soft top pick-up.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge My notes about the station wagon say that is has a 2.25 petrol engine and five speed auto 'box, which sounds likely to be similar to yours. They also say that both axles are fitted with limited slip diffs. Their pick-up was later fitted with a V8 for further testing so I guess is less original, if that even matters with these things. Very interesting find. Please not though a 1-ton is not a 1-tonne, the latter is the 101FC!
