BMW engine if I remeber right.

Is insurance not replacing with a Puma or have you just learned to stay well away from these models? Puma 110 - gone

Grockle, the Defender 2.8i is a South African special, built between 1997 and 2001, when BMW owned Land Rover. Land Rover fitted a 2.8i 6 cylinder petrol motor from the 328i and 528i BMW's of the time (M52), which in the Land Rover's application pushes out 142 kW.

They are reputedly exceptionally reliabe, bar a couple of issues (viscous fan, fuel pump, clutch due to dual-mass flywheel and thermostat housing). The one that I intend purchasing has had all of the above repaired by a reputable independant LR service centre.
