500 vs 50 ppm diesel
is 500 ppm diesel bad for the 2.4 puma?

Marius, it can handle it. IIRC, it can handle up to 3000ppm.

But fill up with 50ppm as a rule, it's a much better diesel. I find the best consumption comes from Sasol and Shell Thumbs Up --

On my way to work there is an Engen and they only have one pump with 50, so I end up filling up 9/10 times with 500. Just wanted to know if will cause damage in the long run? My consumption with 500 Engen is about 11.5 l/100km.

It won't.

However, higher sulphur content means more sulphuric acid in the oil. Just change the oil every 10,000km to get rid of the sulphuric acid build up --

The main problem using 500ppm is that it stuffs up the DPF, which isn't installed on SA vehicles. But Naks is correct about the acid build up when using 500ppm. The service schedule states that if you use 500ppm then you should reduce oil changes to 10k. Fill up with 50ppm where you can.

the 2.2 Puma has a DPF, so be careful --

ok......50ppm it will have to be then.

I live 4 km from work so I end up getting to 1 year before I get to 20k. Had my first years service at 12k so, should be ok with the acid buildup then.

Not that great to do such short distances every day. I would take it out on the open road at least once a week to give horns Thumbs Up --

here in Tanzania diesel fuel is all 5000ppm except BP which is 500ppm,where we are we cant get BP Big Cry The dealer insists that service is done every 5000km to stay in warrenty, so far no problems with the high sulpher fuel, on about 16000km now Smile
