There may be something in that. I have a mate who works for a main dealership and he told me when I saw him last week that since people have got wind of the current Defender being replaced by the DC100 sales have shot up. |

Sales might be up but I doubt this was some evil genius company plan. If only companies were that smart... Apple is known to put out bogus information about stuff, but I don't see the majority of companies having the intellectual capacity to conjure up strategies like that, and execute them.
I think DC100 is Land Rover's true idea for a Defender replacement. |

I think improved sales of the current Defender are just probably a spin-off benefit brought about by the news of the cessation of production, it quite often happens. It will be interesting to see how the large utility companies and the MOD react in the next couple of years 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top

I feel that LR are trying to move away from the Defender as the type of vehicle it is and move inline with other main stream 4x4 manufacturers, to that end I was speaking with the sales manager at my local LR dealer about the about the DC100 who said that quote " 9 of the 12 DC 100 designers had been to their dealership (which is the biggest Defender seller in the country to both private and business users) and the dealer principle told them that their is no way that the this will replace the Defender and to go away and have a rethink".
The sales manager is now adamant the new Defender may well be called the DC 100, but it will be nothing like what we have seen so far! Interesting me thinks so interesting that the dealer in question has now taken ISUZU. One Life Live It, There Isn't Anything To Beat It, Even The Boss Agrees. So, do we know if a pickup version is to ne made available and are we assuming the continuation of the 3500kg tow limit? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

If you drop a Defender on the back of one it might look like a pick up

I was waiting for a haircut in Lymington at the weekend and there was an old copy of CAR with a DC100 review in it. They were saying that a lot of boat based fabrics were used to allow for hosing out and had a photo of the rear showing no carpets etc.
Sounds more promising. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

If the DC100 becomes reality as the New defender, then Toyota will be smiling all the way to the bank.
Face it, the only vehicle that can compete with the Defender is the Land Cruiser Pickup and Troopy. Or the LC70 series if you prefer. All they need is double cab with the live axles and they would be A for away. |

I doubt toyota give a flying at a rolling doughnut about landrover to be honest. Sales of Hilux and their other utility vehicles outnumber landrovers many times over

Indeed, and this is a market Land Rover should aggressively try to recapture, and not just do yet another leisure entry. |
