2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS DCPU Tonga Green
Picking defender up
Quick question. Are the standard rear towing eyes strong enough to pick up the back of a 110 doublecab with a telehandler so i can pressure wash and waxoyl underneath easily? And if not is there anything else i can attach the straps to easily

NO!! This sounds like a pretty good way to seriously injure yourself, or worse. The 'towing eyes' to which you refer are simply lashing-down eyes for securing the vehicle on a transporter or similar. They are not suitable for anything else.

You've inadvertently stepped on a real hornets nest here! There have been many hours of debate about these lashing-down points, particularly with regard to recovery. Basically, they're just not strong enough for anything that involves any force or load.

I'd suggest that some good trolley / bottle jacks and decent axle stands are the only way forward with this one. Thumbs Up 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

I am sure that not all would be happy with, but I would use a strop through that on to the telehandler.

But would recommend big set of stands, or even an oil barrel under each rear wheel before you get under it.

Hi,
I have worked in motor trade 35 plus years and seen some bad things from cutting corners. For your own safety use axle stands or a ramp. not worth the risk.

Shocked Use axles stands or similar my friend if you have to & chock the wheels Shocked

You can get under the vehicle to put your rust prevention on without raising it! Watch Waxoyl on your plastics, rubbers e.g. door seals etc it can ripple/damage stuff! Much more effective and easier products to use out there than Waxoyl.

Forklifts/telehandlers are very useful for changing axles, I've done it many times on mine:

Very good for this purpose as you can tweak the vehicle height in order to line up the suspension easier. But I'd never get under there with it like that! It's not worth getting flattened to save a few hours work.

For your planned job you'll need to be under there so don't bother with it. You could put it up on some decent sized wheel ramps, that will give you a lot of space to move about under there.

The other issue is even if you don't get under there (very dangerous) is if anything did happen what about the damage that would be done Exclamation 3000kg there not something to mess with. Idea

Whilst you're not wrong in principle, the back end of a Land Rover weighs nowhere near 3000kgs. The whole vehicle is only around 2 tonnes and the back end will be less than half that. Darren

The 3000kg figure is fully laden but I'd hope nobody would attempt to lift or jack one up with a tonne of something in the back. Empty, they're around 2000kgs - slightly less for a 90, of course. Darren

110s are 2050kg or there abouts...same as my old D2 5 seater. 90 TC are about 1600kg
