First overland sad news
I had this email today from the First Overland Expedition group:

FIRST OVERLAND NEWS

Jamie —

I'm afraid that I have some very sad information for enthusiasts of the 'First Overland' Expedition. I was phoned late last night by Pat Murphy with the upsetting news that Antony Barrington Brown ('BB') and his wife Althea have been killed in a car crash on the A36.

Local Wiltshire news sites confirm that Althea was driving their Ford Focus, and 'BB' was a passenger, when they were hit by a tipper truck carrying aggregates — they were killed instantly.

I know from visiting them that the turn off the A36 into their village, Upton Lovell, is a very tricky one, on a single-carriageway road that carries fast traffic. Although this is pure speculation on my part, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the accident happened at that crossroads.

I'm sure that all fans of 'BB's marvellous London-Singapore footage, and of Althea's magnificent sculptures, will join me in thinking of their family, to whom I've sent a condolence card. For 'FO' fans this is particularly poignant, coming so soon after the loss of Adrian Cowell from a heart attack.

The latest Newsletter was prepared a few days ago, and it's only because of a problem with uploading the pictures that I've not published it. Now I will update it, and notify you when it's available online.

Regards,

GRAEME ALDOUS
