DE shaving
Is anyone here living in the world of DE (double edged) shaving?

Ive always used the Gillette 5 blade razors, but getting fed up with the cost of their blades Ive just splashed out of a starter kit from The Traditional Shaving Company, comprising...

Merkur 34C HD Chrome razor

Pure badger Ivory brush

Truefitt and hill west indian limes shaving cream

Feather blades

Brings back childhood memories of my father shaving. Anyone else using similar?

Hi WarPig,
Yep, I shave with the same razor and it is wickedly good!

I use Arko shaving cream and Derby Extra DE blades.

I will never go back to the Gillette contour razors as the blades are massively overpriced and the shave is not as close as traditional shaving!

DE shaving takes a bit of getting used to, but with a little practice it is the best method - that's my view anyway.

Cheers,
Paul

Full beard here so can't comment on current situation. However when I started shaving those DE razors were all we had. Seem to remember lots of nicks and cuts. Could of course be due to my inexperience at the time Laughing

I gave up shaving over forty years ago.
The same pair of scissors has done me since then.
Can't get cheaper than that.

Wife bought me Panasonic (quality) clippers for my birthday 5 years ago.
Since then, head and face 2 mm all over - wait a bit until I look homeless and repeat Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Unfortunately for me I have to shave for work, and for my sins I have facial hairs thicker than my Land Rovers tires. I use nothing less than mach 3 turbo blades otherwise it gets very painful very quickly.

I have become very fond of Turkish shaves.... give the hair a weeks growth and then pay £3 for a stranger to cut it all off

so Warpig, how much did that lot cost?

i agree that the price of gillette blades is astronomical but that has always been part of the marketing strategy, sell the razor cheaply and clean up with the ongoing running costs. not that far adrift from Land Rover's strategey with the Defender except they didn't quite get the sell it cheap initially bit.

i tried the 10 bics for a pound from our local store on the basis i could use them once only, i still have nine left and it left me thinking that bic must have shares in elstoplast!

Since I have "baby-bum" hair, I can clip at 0.8mm and get away with it Laughing Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Now where would be the fun in that?
Rolling with laughter

Seriously though, I just screw up my eyes and go for it. Being sober makes it worse.
I think you lose pain receptors over time... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Well thats half the problem, it cost about £65 Shocked so not cheap. But Im giving it to the wife so she can give it back to me for my birthday next month, so I have the pleasure of buying my own birthday presents Rolling Eyes I admit, I could buy a lot of Gillette blades for that money, but the DE razor will make a nice gift Thumbs Up
