Good choice for a hot country, 130s have a very big roof that collects a lot of sun.

You'r correct Andrew both got same roof, but compared to other manufacturers pickups they are big. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

Thanks all for your warm welcome, I will post more pics once I have put the 130 into some more interesting locations, its the rainy season so that should not be too difficult.
Richard, the farm is large as is the norm in ths area, 5400ha, 90% virgin bush, the rest we mix farm livestock and seed maize/beans. The 130 allows us to carry a heavy load and also friends and family  |

The biggest farm in our village is 100ha, dairy, with no virgin bush

I don't think we'll see many farms that size over here, especially in one block. Perhaps some of the larger estates in Scotland may just about stretch to that size but in England it's very doubtfull. The biggest single holding I worked on in the Midlands was 800ha, and that was considered large, we had a dairy herd of 250 milkers, a sheep flock of 1500 ewes and arable. Also on the estate were gardeners, woodsmen(with our own sawmill)and a small army of maintenance men. There were 50 odd cottages and houses connected to the estate as well as all the other buildings, every house was decorated inside and out once every 4 years. I had hoped it was a job for life, I was the one and only shepherd, but the management and the family that owned the place decided on a change of policy, the sheep flock was cut in half and to be looked over by contract shepherds. The dairy herd is gone and the buildings are now a business park. 20 years ago there were 45men employed on the estate, now there is just one tractor driver and a couple of odd job maintenance/dogsbodys. Everything else is done when needed by contractors
I moved to Hereford about 12 years ago and worked for a potato farm, just a father and son concern and we topped over a 1000ha one year, over 400ha of spuds, 400ha of rape, wheat and barley as well as 200ha of sugar beet. My main position there............the one and only sprayer driver  I had 3 machines, a main self propelled 24m jobbie, one that was only used on the sugar beet(less worry about cross contamination going from potato's to sugar beet and vica versa as well as different wheel widths) and then the old crate that was used for potato dessication(74% sulphuric acid, and you think Land Rovers corrode )I would regularly beat the local spray contractors for ground covered. The job allmost broke my marriage years ago, it was leaving farming but working away from home for weeks on end that did it |

Like Double cab happy said, it's great to see a defender off the tarmac.
I'm thinking that's what my 130 dreams of at night roaming around the bush in Tanzania, awesome! Keep the pictures coming! |
