Indicator self cancelling
My indicators failed to cancel themselves this morning, more often than not.

Where is the thing for this? Is it something that catches a notch on the steering wheel splines? I've searched the forum but to no avail.

I'm at work and my old '89 - '07 Haynes manual is at home. It might have the answer.

Yes, if you remove the steering wheel there is a prong thing that mates into a blue plastic collar.

This blue collar is part of the indicator switch (it's part of the switch assy, not removable)

There is an arrow moulded into it. The arrow needs to point to the left 9 o'clock position (but if you've not removed the wheel then this shouldn't have changed, so sounds like the switch unit is duff)

I've not taken one apart, so not sure what's inside it.... a kind of locking cam I think. Whether a good spray with WD40 would fix it I don't know.

The indicator switch is as described above but they're are a weak link in both the main beam wiring and indicator switches.

I have IPF headlights which lead to me changing the indicator/main beam switch a couple of times as the contacts can't cope with the current and begin to bend away as they get hot despite relays etc- new arb wiring harness required.

All replacement parts I've had suffer the same flimsy indicator switch.

I've even had it listed as an item on an MOT-excessive play in the indicator stalk.
